  • Paul Rebeyrolle was a French artist whose work focused on highlighting philosophical and political issues in expressive, highly charged, abstract works. He spent many years in Paris and joined the Communist party but renounced his involvement after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. After years of some success, Reyberolle left Paris in 1963. He settled in the countryside and continued to show in Paris, most frequently at the Maeght Gallery. In his later years his work became more serene. He had his first retrospective at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais in Paris in the 1970s. More exhibitions followed, and in 1995 he created his own museum space named ‘Espace Paul Rebeyrolle’ in his hometown, Eymoutiers.
