  • Joan Miro (Spanish/Catalan1893 - 1983) is best known for his works combining the abstract and the Surreal.  Energetic, even childlike, his art is composed of abstract shapes and bold colours. Place and emotion were important to his spontaneous style and his travels from Barcelona to Paris to New York show their influence in his work. Miro’s paintings and sculptures display his rebellious nature and contempt for the conventional, so creating his own unique artistic language that makes him one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century. The Joan Miró Foundation, a museum dedicated to his work, was established in his native city of Barcelona in 1975.
