Joan Miro, Untitled, 'Blue', 1961
Joan Miro (Spanish/Catalan) 1893 – 1983 was a Spanish painter best known for his works that combine the abstract and the surreal. His works are energetic, even childlike, composed of abstract shapes and bold colours. Place and emotion were important to his spontaneous panting style. Travels from Spain to Paris to New York had a marked influence on his work. Miro’s paintings and sculptures display his rebelliousness and contempt for the conventional creating his own unique artistic language that makes him one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
