Antoni Tapies, Journal, 1968
Antoni Tàpies was a distinguished Catalan artist, (1923-2012) who endeavoured to create highly intuitive, enigmatic images that have the potential to change our perception of reality. He worked with a variety of themes variety of themes and influences: left-wing politics and humanitarianism; the practices of Zen meditation; the Christian concept of incarnation; and a conviction that art was a kind of alchemy or magic that could transform the most base materials. He is considered significant among the revolutionary Spanish artists of the 20th Century. He founded the The Antoni Tàpies Foundation, a gallery and education centre in the heart of Barcelona, in 1984, with the aim of promoting the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art.
